SERU stands for Safety, Equality and Regulatory Understanding. It is the assessment TfL asks every new London private hire (PHV) driver to pass before a licence is granted. It checks two things: that you know the rules in the PHV Driver's Handbook, and that you can read and answer questions in English at level B1. Our online SERU course trains both.
Take full timed SERU mock exams with multiple choice and sentence completion questions, the same formats as the real assessment. Every paper gives you a score for each part, so you know whether to work on the rules, the grammar or the reading.
Questions stay in English, like on test day. Each explanation can be opened in Romanian, Polish, Urdu, Bengali, Portuguese, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Turkish or Persian, so a hard question becomes a lesson instead of a guess.
The error queue brings back every SERU question you got wrong after 1, 3 and 7 days. The reading trainer builds the slow, careful reading the assessment rewards. Optional daily questions in Telegram keep you sharp between sessions.
Study on your phone between jobs or on a laptop at home. One payment of £45 gives you 8 weeks of full access to the SERU course, and you can add 4 more weeks if your test date moves.

TfL says it is computer-based, at a TfL office, with multiple choice questions and sentence completion, at English level B1. TfL does not publish the number of questions, the time or the pass mark on its private hire page. TfL states 36 questions, about one hour and a 60% pass mark for its SERU (Notice 06/25, written for the taxi test); it publishes no separate private hire figures. TfL charges £40, and £30 for a re-sit. Check TfL before you book. See pass mark, fees and retakes.
Anyone applying for a London private hire (PHV) driver licence who has to take the TfL SERU assessment, including drivers whose first language is not English. It is an independent online course: our questions are our own, written from the public PHV Driver's Handbook, and TfL sets and marks the real assessment. The course shows you where you lose marks so you can fix them before test day.
Practise the paper, see where you lose marks, fix them. Pick the course that fits.
